Prison is a way that your rights can be taken away from you, and 58% of prisoners are either african american or latino. “Together, African American and Hispanics comprised 58% of all prisoners in 2008, even though African Americans and Hispanics make up approximately one quarter of the US population”. That means 58% of a 25% of our population in behind bars. Which is too many people in prison, and not enough people in the work field working jobs. “African Americans now constitute nearly 1 million of the total 2.3 million incarcerated population”. Meaning african americans are almost half of the people that populate prisons. Minorities rights are being taken away for long periods of time. Prison is just another way for the U.S to change “OUR” democracy. “African Americans are incarcerated at nearly six times the rate of whites”. That shows that for every 1 white american incarcerated, there are 6 african americans incarcerated.
