Sometimes being a part of the minority I feel that I am placed into a category that doesn’t fit my profile. Sometimes being apart of the greater minority I feel that I started a step behind others. The way jobs are distributed is another way that we are subjected to all those things. If you think about why people turn to Drugs, Violence, or why people live in poverty its because of the way jobs are given out and what goes into you ultimately getting a job. According to the American Psychological Association “African American children are three times more likely to live in poverty than Caucasian children. American Indian/Alaska Native, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, and Native Hawaiian families are more likely than Caucasian and Asian families to live in poverty”. So according to them minorities are more likely to live in poverty which causes stress. According to them again “Minority children in high-poverty areas are more likely to be exposed to alcohol and tobacco advertisements and drug distribution” This association just basically proved the argument that because minorities live in poverty, they are going to do whatever makes them feel better and live better. So minorities are going to get money the way they believe is their “Only option”. So before the media jumps to a conclusion and labels minorities as drug dealer, and people who turn to violence think about what we face everyday.
Democracies believe that everyone has an equal chance, and everyone has the same rights. However in this instance it seems that minorities don’t get the same democratic rights that other americans get. By jobs being distributed the way they are, by opportunities being given less to minorities, and by the way prisons are set up how can this be called a democracy? A democracy is supposed to be fair, and the way minorities are sub-mindedly treated you cannot say this is a full democracy.
